A migraine is a disorder which involves recurring headaches which may be accompanied by other symptoms. Rarely is it preceded by a preliminary warning called an “aura”. Migraines occur when the blood vessels in the head and neck spasm or constrict which decreases blood flow to the brain. After the blood vessels constrict, they will soon dilate or enlarge resulting in a severe headache. There are many different mechanisms, including subluxations, which may trigger a spasm and subsequent blood vessel dilation.  In some cases, there may be inflammation surrounding the blood vessels.

Migraine headaches affect about 6 out of 100 people. People who are mainly affected by migraines are women between the ages of 10 to 46. In some cases, migraines seem to run in families. Some symptoms that have been associated with migraines are a throbbing or pulsating pain, vertigo, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, loss of appetite, vomiting and neck pain. For certain people, the pain may be worse on one the sides of the forehead; be on only one side of the forehead; be severe or dull; and commonly last 6 to 48 hours.

Rockwall Chiropractic care works by correcting the subluxations, or misalignments, in the neck subsequently restoring proper blood flow to the brain. Chiropractic also helps to relieve symptoms associated with migraine headaches.
